Course Detail

Term Winter 2018
Class ARCH 509
Class Title Ambiguous Territory: Between Architecture and Environment
Description This seminar sets out a syncretic field of exploration that will situate contemporary design practices within critical environmental sensibilities and the context of the Postnatural; the era of climate change, the anthropocene, altered ecologies, and technological mediation. Weekly readings ranging from philosophy and environmental theory to architecture, landscape architecture, and art will be paired with discussions of design projects from across these fields. Work will consist of weekly written responses, case studies, and a final creative project that engages the topics of the course. This seminar follows the eponymous exhibition and symposium held at Taubman College in Fall 2017.
