| Description | This course examines the social life of parks, sidewalks, subways, plazas, malls and other shared spaces. The course will focus on the aesthetic, legal, and social considerations that designers and city officials should consider when they try to use regulation and design to promote the health and vitality of public spaces. An eclectic array of classic and contemporary readings from sociology, urban planning and design, law, and related fields will be reviewed. |
