Taubman College

Undergraduate / UG

Michigan offers a two-year undergraduate (UG) program in architecture. Through design studios and construction projects, students develop the skills to design for the built environment. The UG program is an upper level transfer program, meaning students transfer into the architecture program for their junior/senior years. Before transferring into the program, students take two years of pre-architecture (pre-arch) coursework.

The objectives of the UG program (Junior and Senior years):

  1. To provide a firm foundation in the vocabularies, principles, and interrelationships of a broad range of environmental design determinants essential to professional work in architecture.
  2. To provide opportunities for the students to develop their basic skills, knowledge, perceptions, and insights in areas related to the built environment.

The UG program culminates in a nonprofessional bachelor of science degree (B.S.) in architecture.

After graduating, many students choose to continue their graduate studies in architecture or a related field in design or construction. Others work for a year or more.
