Post Rob|Arch Conference Robotic Workshop with Iain (Max) Maxwell and Dave Pigram

“Architects tend to draw what they can build, and build what they can draw.”

Bill Mitchell. Roll over Euclid: How Frank Gehry Designs and Builds

Workshop Description
The workshop will explore the coupling of generative -algorithmic- design strategies with vision-enabled robotics to establish opportunistic mechanisms of environmental feedback within a design-to-production ecology. Working in teams, students will write simple algorithmic drawing functions (Python scripting within Rhino3D), enacted robotically (pen, router or other end effector), capable of adaptive response(s) to emerging environmental conditions: placement of obstacles, dimensional creep and/or material difference and resistances.

Workshop Themes

  • Architectural practices of drawing
  • Algorithmic design
  • Robotic fabrication
  • Environmental sensors

Schedule:

  • Saturday, October 18  - All day Robotic workshop (FabLab)
  • Sunday, October 19 - All day Robotic workshop (FabLab)
  • Monday, October 20, 6pm - Evening Robotic workshop (FabLab)
  • Tuesday October 21, 6pm - Maxwell and Pigram (UTS & Supermanoeuvre)
