Favelas as a Sustainable Urban Model
Theresa Williamson, Ph.D., founder and executive director of Catalytic Communities (CatComm), will be at Taubman College to engage in conversations surrounding sustainability opportunities and challenges of informal settlements in Brazil and the Global South. Catalytic Communities is an empowerment, communications, think tank, and advocacy NGO working since 2000 in support of Rio’s favelas. More information about Williamson's work can be found here.
Williamson will join students to discuss her planning practice as the executive director of a NGO promoting sustainable practices in informal communities.
Hosted by Taubman College Career Services, the event is jointly sponsored by Taubman College (Urban Planning and Urban Design) and the International Institute (through a student and faculty co-led grant for on-campus initiatives).
