LunchUP: India Solomon, "Brush Park Form-Based Code: Development Affordability Analysis"
In 2014, the City of Detroit began the process of designing and implementing a Form Based Code for the Brush Park neighborhood. Last year, Professor Marc Norman's Public Private Partnerships: Financing Equitable Development course analyzed the impact of the Brush Park Form Based Code on housing affordability, ultimately finding that the types of development resulting from the code would be largely inaccessible to the average Detroiter. India Solomon continued this research over the summer and developed a series of recommendations to assist the City of Detroit in navigating future form based code plans. India will discuss the interplay between design, policy and finance and the importance of local government negotiations in catalyzing equitable development.
These sessions are a response to requests from faculty and students to learn more about what’s going on in the field in an informal environment. We hope this can inspire emergent thoughts and connections that will inform our scholarship.
Lunch is included, please bring a drink.
