Dale Winling Receives Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship

Dale Winling has been awarded a Rackham Predoctoral Fellowship to complete work on his dissertation, “Building the Ivory Tower: University Development and the Politics of Urban Space.”

The Rackham Predoctoral Fellowships support outstanding doctoral students who have achieved candidacy and are actively working on dissertation research and writing. Winling’s research involves “the interaction between universities and cities in urban history viewed through the lens of campus development, especially student housing. The design, planning, and economics of campus development have affected the political climate and perception of universities at the local, state, and national levels throughout the twentieth century, even as universities have become the engines of regional and national economic development.”
