Taubman College Borum, Daubmann Win 2011 American Architecture Award for Storm Glass House
Taubman College faculty, Professor Craig Borum and Associate Professor Karl Daubmann, were awarded the American Architecture Award from the Chicago Athanaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies for the project “Storm Glass House”. Borum and Daubmann are the principals of PLY Architecture. Judged by six eminent Canadian architects, urban planners, and educators, 45 projects were selected as winners of the prestigious American Architecture Awards. Winning projects were chosen based on originality in design, innovation, thoughtfulness, and technique.
All winning work for 2011 will be exhibited at, “New World Architecture,” which takes place at the XIII BA11- International Biennial of Architecture Buenos Aires October 8-31, 2011. After the showing in Argentina, the exhibition is scheduled to travel throughout Europe in 2011-2012.
“Storm Glass House” was based on “Storm Glass,” which was also awarded an R+D Award from Architect Magazine. “Storm Glass” is on display in Grand Rapids, Mich., as part of ArtPrize now until October 9, 2011, at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. Storm Glass was created in collaboration from Julie Simpson, M.Arch. ’10, was initiated in fall 2010 with seed money from Taubman College’s Research Through Making program.
