Taubman College Ahlquist Exhibits Work in Show Titled Textile Morphologies
Assistant Professor Sean Ahlquist exhibited his work at the University of Stuttgart in Germany in a show entitled Textile Morphologies. The projects exhibited were his doctoral and teaching work from the Institute for Computational Design in Stuttgart with Prof. Achim Menges, as well as with the Masters of Science in Material Systems at Taubman College. The work ranges from detailed explorations into multi-layer tensile structures, to full scale installations of geometrically and structurally complex force-active structures. Physical prototypes are shown alongside detailed computational work, showing the constant exchange and feedback between the two environments. Ahlquist will be completing his doctoral work with the Institute from Computational Design in the summer of 2013.
This exhibition was also supported by the students of the Master of Science in Material Systems, along with Assistant Professor Catie Newell, through a grant from the International Institute Experiential Learning Fund and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. As a part of the students travel to Stuttgart, they presented their research from the seminar Processes in Material Computation through the construction of a full scale installation built specifically for the exhibition.
