Graham Foundation awards funds for exhibition on Possible Mediums; Adam Fure to co-curate

The Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts recently awarded over $448,000 to 40 projects demonstrating innovation and originality in approaches to architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. Possible Mediums, an exhibition co-curated by Assistant Professor of Architecture Adam Fure, was one of those projects.

Based on the Possible Mediums conference held February 7-10, 2013 at The Ohio State University Knowlton School of Architecture, the travelling exhibition will come to the Taubman College Liberty Gallery in January 2014.

The Possible Mediums exhibition will showcase a series of design investigations based in speculative architectural mediums, driven by a group of emerging designers; Ellie Abrons (Assistant Professor of Architecture), Andrew Atwood, Kelly Bair, Kristy Balliet, Brennan Buck/David Freeland, Angela Co, Justin Diles, Adam Fure (Assistant Professor of Architecture), Nataly Gattegno/Jason Kelly Johnson, Andrew Holder (Assistant Professor of Architecture), Mariana Ibañez/Simon Kim, Thomas Kelley, Jimenez Lai, Michael Loverich/Antonio Torres, Kyle Miller, and Michael Young). Challenging the boundaries of architectural convention, this group of academic practitioners employs exploratory processes rooted in mediums external to the discipline (such as film or comics) or developed from atypical applications of more conventional mediums (such as drawings or models). Their collective work, both in design and discourse, demonstrates the profound potential of an expansion and diversification of architectural mediums as format, as material, and as a means of projection.
