Taubman College Urban Urge Awards Announced; Awards reserved for Taubman College graduates
An open competition is being launched for grants to carry out urban design installations and projects in honor of Moji Baratloo (B.S.,M.Arch.’78) who also served as a visiting faculty member.
The Urban Urge Awards are 12 grants that provide support up to $4,000 to develop and realize innovative urban and design projects.
Three $1,000 Emerge Awards are open to recent graduates/alumni from the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Columbia University GSAPP, and Parsons the New School for Design. Applicants must have graduated within the past five years.

The Urban Urge Awards are designed to push urban and design ideas to have a realized impact in urban communities. Moji Baratloo (1954 – 2013) was an architect, urban designer, educator, and community advocate whose work has made critical contributions to the field of urban design and the development of cities globally. After studying Urban Design at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, Moji worked at Gunnar Birkerts and Associates before moving to New York City in 1979, where she worked with Eli Attia Architects, and Tod Williams and Billie Tsien Architects. In 1981 she was one of the founding members of the StoreFront for Art and Architecture and was a member of the board of directors during its first decade. In 1984, she founded Baratloo-Balch Architects with Clifton Balch, where she was a Principal.
