Design Fellows sought for project on egalitarianism and the metropolis

Taubman College is seeking Design Fellows for a new University of Michigan project focused on architecture, urbanism and humanities research. The project, titled “University of Michigan-Mellon Project on Egalitarianism and the Metropolis,” was made possible by a $1.3 million grant from the A. W. Mellon Foundation.

Design Fellows will be expected to pursue independent research projects at the intersection of architecture, urbanism and the humanities, with particular emphasis on the role of egalitarianism in shaping metropolitan regions. Fellows’ research work should also address aspects of one or more of the cities-metros under consideration — Detroit, Mexico City DF and/or Rio de Janeiro.

Fellows will teach two design studios per term in the Michigan Architecture Prep Program (based in Detroit, Michigan at the Michigan Research Studio, Detroit), a semester-long enrichment program that introduces high school juniors to the discipline of architecture.

Visit the fellowship page for complete details, compensation, and for information on how to apply by the June 15, 2014 deadline.
