Taubman College O.N.E. Mile Receives a 2014 ArtPlace America Grant
MODCaR (The Metropolitan Observatory of Digital Culture and Representation) in collaboration with the OAAC (the Oakland Avenue Artists Coalition) announced today that it is among 55 grants given by ArtPlace America (ArtPlace) in 2014 to support creative placemaking across the country. The $150,000 grant will support the reactivation of one linear mile of historic Oakland Avenue in Detroit’s North End.
O.N.E. Mile will leverage a network of architects, musicians, urban designers, contemporary artists, and community advocates to collectively plan and produce a series of vibrant civic interventions with installations, performances, events, and architectural mediations.
Anya Sirota, Assistant Professor of Architecture and Director of MODCaR said, “We are absolutely delighted to share this exciting news about the O.N.E. Mile project, and grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with extraordinary cultural producers in the North End. We will soon be opening the Bureau of Emergent Urbanity on Oakland Avenue in the former O.K. Barber Shop. This will be a space to collectively share ideas about future civic interventions, and we hope you will join.”
