Urban Planning students seek input for downtown Ann Arbor Greenway

Graduate students in the Urban Planning program, in partnership with the Allen Creek Greenway Conservancy and the City of Ann Arbor, are designing the Allen Creek Trail, a proposed natural biking and walking path through downtown Ann Arbor. The project, under the name “Green the Way”, would run parallel to the historic alignment of Allen Creek and a portion of the existing rail corridor. Since the 1980s there has been talk of such a trail, with benefits of downtown green space, neighborhood preservation, and improved flood control and water quality being cited.

In addition to protecting and preserving the Allen Creek floodplain and valley, the Allen Creek Greenway would provide a non-motorized path for safe, sustainable transportation from the Big House to Argo Pond and the Cascades.

In an effort to welcome community input into its design, the students have created a survey where residents and the local community can suggest components of the Allen Creek Trail to be implemented, as well as trail uses and design. All are encouraged to complete the short, ten-question survey found here: https://umich.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_cJaLIGRkDqO49Yp. The results and feedback will be included in a report sent to the City of Ann Arbor in December. Before the deadline of November 27th, residents are encouraged to respond and help bring the Allen Creek Trail to life.
