Taubman College Newell conducts workshop and lectures at Ball State
Assistant Professor of Architecture Catie Newell will be conducting a workshop at Ball State January 23-26. The workshop titled, “Upstairs,” focuses on site-specific installations for existing, under-utilized spaces. The team of graduate architecture students from Ball State will be creating an installation in the upstairs of the Muncie Makes space in Muncie, Indiana. This former bar saloon, nestled up to operating railroad tracks has been the site of material and spatial studies since going unoccupied several years ago. The team has already been exploring the space through photograph and light studies, as well as delicate interventions that hover in the space. The work will culminate in a delicate installation that works with the eerie abandoned space and its appearance at night.
Newell will also be lecturing at Ball State the evening of the 26th. Her lecture, “Timestamp” will discuss a series of installations deeply engaged within their respective host cities. After the lecture at 4pm, the workshop installation will open to the public with an event at Muncie Makes.
