Taubman College to Host 2016 ACADIA Conference

Taubman College will host the ACADIA 2016 Conference, Posthuman Frontiers: Data, Designers and Cognitive Machines. Taking place October 27 - 29, 2016, the conference will focus on computational design at the architectural, urban and material scales. The conference will bring together ideas and endeavors from fields such as material science, biology, art, computer graphics, civil engineering, and human-computer interaction. Themes and topics include big data; ownership and authorship in ideas, process and means of production; cognitive streams; and tools, tool streams and tool-building. 

Geoffrey Thün, Associate Dean for Research of Taubman College, will serve as Chair of the conference. Taubman College faculty Co-Chairs include: Assistant Professor Sean Ahlquist, Associate Professor Matias del Campo, Assistant Professor Kathy Velikov, Assistant Professor Wes McGee, Assistant Professor Catie Newell, and Sandra Manninger, Lecturer in Architecture. Technical Co-Chair Kathy Velikov, Assistant Professor of Architecture, has additionally been named to the ACADIA Board of Directors and will preside over the ACADIA Board over the coming year. 

Formed for the purpose of facilitating communication about the use of computers in architecture, planning and building science, ACADIA is committed to the research and development of computational methods that enhance design creativity and contribute to the construction of humane physical environments.
