Taubman College Newell Featured in Hero Magazine
Assistant Professor of Architecture Catie Newell was recently featured in HERO Magazine’s special issue, Detroit Rising. HERO Magazine, Britain’s bold fashion and photography magazine known for its printed interviews, has been traveling to Detroit to document the setting and lives of its current residents. Newell and 3 other Detroit-based artists were selected by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit (MOCAD) to be visited and interviewed.
In the interview, Newell and editor Tempe Nikiska discuss the medium of installation as it relates to the city and the discipline of architecture. The conversation highlights Newell’s interests in darkness, the physical manipulation of urban space, and the emotional impact of her work.
