Newell Featured in The Detroit News for Collaboration Between Doctors and Artists

Assistant Professor of Architecture Catie Newell was featured in The Detroit News, the Washington Times, and The Republic for her part in the University of Michigan’s effort to create a collaboration between doctors and artists. Newell is hailed as one of “the Detroit area’s most notable artists” participating in the collaboration to fund medical research.

The University of Michigan A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute paired artists with 19 clinician-scientists to create collaborative artwork. This artwork was auctioned in April at the Institute’s annual gala fundraiser at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. Proceeds benefitted the Emerging Scholars Program, helping junior medical faculty establish research laboratories.

Newell is a founding principal of Alibi Studio based in Detroit. Her research and work focuses on the development of new atmospheres through the exploration of textures, volumes, and the effects of light or lack thereof.
