Sirota and Akoaki Featured in the Detroit Free Press

Akoaki, the practice lead by Assistant Professor of Architecture Anya Sirota and her partner Jean-Louis Farges, was featured in the Detroit Free Press. The article highlights their projects in Detroit’s North End including O.N.E. Mile, a gateway for the Detroit Culture Council and the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm. Their focus on working with community aims to combat the narrative of corporate development that is fueling Detroit’s comeback as well as gentrification. Instead of trying to attract developers Sirota explains that they aim to find ways “to leverage existing structures, to use design to broadcast existing frequencies.”
