Morcillo Pallarés and Rule Recognized with 2018 ACSA Faculty Design Award

Assistant Professors of Design and Practice Ana Morcillo Pallarés and Jon Rule will receive the Faculty Design Award at the 106th ACSA (Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture) in March.

The project being recognized is the archeological museum Museo del Enclave de la Muralla (MUDEM) in Molina de Segura, Spain. The museum features a 12th century wall and foundation from the ancient city border, which was discovered in 2004. Morcillo Pallarés and Rule describe the project,

“The challenge of the design was to protect and project the archaeological remains onto the strata of the contemporary city. Instead of performing a literal recreation of the wall, our interest was in sculpting the most characteristic archaeological elements into the new plaza and creating a new public space for the city, while at the same time generating a connection between the architectural concepts of the tectonic and stereotomic.”
