Taubman College The “Stabilizing Morningside” capstone project has won the 2018 AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) Student Project Award. University of Michigan is awarded for the Contribution of Planning to Contemporary Issues category of the competition. The project will be published on the APA website and presented at the 2018 National Planning Conference in New Orleans on April 24.
This capstone project, which was completed in 2015 by a team of Masters of Urban Planning students, focused on the housing conditions in the Morningside neighborhood of east-side Detroit. The resulting 175-page report collected data, analyzed cases, and created a strategic plan for the community. The project was advised by Margaret Dewar and Libby Levy and completed by MUP ‘15 students Josh Bails, Sarah Clark, Fan Fan, Nicholas Fazio, Seul Lee, Evan Markarian, Jamie Simchik, Xiang Yan.
The project has previously won the Michigan Association of Planning’s “Outstanding Graduate Student Project Award” in 2017.
