Urban Inequality Workshop
October 22, 2008 04:00 PM
The Department of Sociology has launched an Urban Inequality Workshop. It is designed to provide a forum for graduate students to present papers on topics of interest to urban sociologists, to encourage students to tap into the strengths and skillsets of faculty working on urban problems, to teach graduate students how to respond constructively to oral and written work, and to socialize graduate students into the practice of engaging the literature and dialoging with other scholars.
The workshop meets once each month from 4-5:30pm on the following dates: September 24, October 22, and November 5th. Gavin Shaktin, associate professor of urban planning at Taubman College, will present on November 5th.
On December 4th, Columbia sociologist Sudhir Venkatesh will give a talk from his award-winning book, Off the Books: The Underground Economy of the Urban Poor.
