Art + Architecture Building
TCAUP will be hosting a Generative Components Workshop Oct 10-11, 2009 in the BT Lab. The workshop will be led by Volker Mueller, the Research Director for Computational Design in Bentley's Applied Research Group, and will be funded by Bentley Systems. Various faculty and students from Prof. Jason Johnson's graduate options studio will be participating in the workshop.
GenerativeComponents is an associative and parametric modeling system used by architects and engineers. It gives designers new ways to efficiently explore alternative building forms and systems without manually building a detail design model for each scenario. GenerativeComponents captures and graphically presents both design components and abstract relationships between them. This capability lets GenerativeComponents go beyond making geometry explicit; it makes design intent explicit as well. Although designers are working graphically, based on intuition and experience in architectural design, their work is captured in logical form.
