MUP Capstone Project Presentation: Community Development Block Grants (CDBG)
Art + Architecture Building
We invite you to the dress rehearsal for MUP students’ fall capstone project presentation, December 14, at 12:30 p.m., in Room 1227. The students will very much benefit from your feedback from your fresh perspectives!
The students have worked all semester on a plan to strengthen Detroit’s Community Development Block Grant subrecipient system. Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) are the largest source of federal funding for community development. Many organizations in Detroit depend on these funds to do important work in neighborhoods, but numerous challenges make this difficult. CDBG funds could have much greater impact on Detroit’s community development needs if allocated, managed, and evaluated in better ways. The students have worked with the Public Policy Committee of the Community Development Advocates of Detroit, the trade association for community development organizations, to describe the Detroit system, derive principles of good practice from bodies of knowledge related to the topic, investigate cities’ exemplary ways of running their CDBG programs, and make recommendations that could transform the system as a whole and increase its impact on community development.
We’ll provide refreshments. Hope to see you there!
