Graduate / Dual Degrees
Joint/dual degrees between the Master of Urban Design Program and the Architecture and Planning Programs (including Ph.D.) are encouraged for all new applicants to Taubman College and current students. Programs include:
- Master of Architecture (M.U.D./M.Arch.)
- Master of Science in Architecture (M.U.D./M.Sc.)
- Master of Urban Planning (M.U.D./M.U.P.)
- Graduate programs in the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE)
Joint/dual degrees enable students to apply a limited number of academic credits across programs. For joint/dual degrees, prospective students apply separately to each of their choice of programs and those applicants are reviewed by the admissions committee for each program. An application fee is required for both programs. If an applicant does not hold a professional degree in architecture, landscape architecture or urban planning, his or her admission to the M.U.D. Program as a joint/dual degree student is contingent on acceptance to another Taubman College professional degree program. Only after such a joint/dual degree applicant is admitted to the other program, will an admissions decision be made by the M.U.D. Program. Because the M.U.D. Program is brief and intensive, joint/dual degree students should satisfy its course and studio sequence within two-and-one-half consecutive terms. For example: summer, fall and winter (with the option of spring-term international study to satisfy the Program’s elective).
M.U.D. students may also apply to receive a Graduate Certificate in a specific area of study to complement their M.U.D. degree. The most common is the Graduate Certificate in Real Estate Development, which includes courses offered in the Ross School of Business and the Law School, joint sponsors of the program with Taubman College. Completion of this program requires extra courses and enrollment time at the university.
