This course focuses on designing programmable textile interfaces and their multiâ€sensory visual, auditory, resistive and haptic feedback. Textiles will be manufactured using the CNC knitting machine, combined with hardware such as Arduino microcontrollers and Microsoft Kinect to embed sensing and feedback. The sensory experience of the prototypes to be developed will address children with autism, focused on creating an environment which encourages sensory regulation,
physical play and social interaction. We will advance specific designs and technologies from previous student work and facultyâ€led research in order to develop a working prototype which can be installed at a local center that works with children with autism and other special needs.
