Taubman College Taubman College doctoral candidates Mills and Stults named Dow Sustainability Fellows
Sarah Mills and Missy Stults, both doctoral candidates in Taubman College’s Urban and Regional Planning program, were recently named as part of the first cohort of interdisciplinary Ph.D. fellows in Sustainability.
Established through a six-year expendable gift from the Dow Chemical Company, the Dow Sustainability Fellows Program at the University of Michigan supports full-time graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at the University of Michigan who are committed to finding interdisciplinary, actionable, and meaningful sustainability solutions on local-to-global scales.

Each will receive $50,000 over two years to support their interdisciplinary doctoral research related to sustainability: “Understanding land-use regulation in rural communities: Crucial insights for onshore wind development” (Mills), and “Defining urban resilience to climate change: Key characteristics and metrics” (Stults)
Fellows will also participate in an ongoing seminar and engage in a series of co-curricular activities designed to expand capacity for interdisciplinary thinking and leadership.
Mills and Stults joined doctoral fellows from across the university including programs in LSA, the School of Music, Theatre & Dance, the College of Engineering, the School of Public Health, and the School of Education.
