December 2019 DEI Spotlight - Ann Luke

December 2019 DEI SPOTLIGHT

Name: Ann Luke

Preferred Pronoun: She/Her/Hers

Affiliation/Title: Chief of Staff

Degree(s): Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature, Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration

Home Country: United States

Language(s) Spoken: English

Gender Identity: Female

Favorite food: Honestly, potatoes - there are so many ways to eat potatoes (baked, mashed, fried, scalloped, french fries, tater tots, etc.) and they are all delicious!

Favorite book and why: An absolutely impossible question! I have an annual goal to read at least 52 books a year and even in one year it would not be possible to choose a favorite. What a gift to us all that there are so many talented writers out there.

Favorite thing to do when not at TC: Reading (see the favorite book question!) and traveling. I also really enjoy playing board/card games, cooking, yoga, and pilates.

DEI Contribution/Highlight: In my role as Chief of Staff, I am working to advance DEI efforts at Taubman College by developing and implementing HR policies, practices and procedures that create and support a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment at the college.

Why is diversity, equity, and inclusion important to you? In Brené Brown’s Netflix special A Call to Courage, she discusses that the opposite of belonging is fitting in. DEI is so important because everyone deserves to experience true belonging in all aspects of their lives (versus having to change who they are to fit in).
