“By involving real sites and real clients, the studios were a great balance of innovative exploration and negotiating with real constraints to develop a balanced design approach.”

Why did you choose Taubman College?

Upon comparing several urban design programs at various schools in the U.S. and U.K., I found Michigan’s urban design program to be very comprehensive in its coverage of essential subjects. I was also drawn by the studio travel opportunities and the fact that from looking at the past year’s work, the program’s approach felt more grounded, rather than abstract. Finally, the good feedback I received on U-M as a school and a generous scholarship package were important in my final decision.

Describe the work that you do.

I lead a design team working on a range of urban planning, design, and architecture projects. Among the key projects I am working on is a 200-acre, transit-oriented, mixed-use masterplan; the above-station architecture for a re-accommodating project affecting people from two underground metro stations; and a 10-acre healthcare campus. I am also involved in all aspects of practice management, including business development, outreach programs, training programs, staffing, and recruitment.

What is an important lesson that has stayed with you from your time at Taubman College?

The most important tool for a designer is collaboration, something I learned while working jointly with my classmates on team projects.

What did you like best about Taubman College?

I loved the large studio, which enabled me to get acquainted with students across programs and get a peek into the exciting work being carried out across programs.
