2020 Wallenberg Studio Awards Ceremony

May 1, 2020 at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

2020 Wallenberg Studio Awards Ceremony

Each winter term, the Taubman College seniors in architecture collectively reflect upon a common studio theme, inspired by the life and actions of Raoul Wallenberg. To follow the example of Raoul Wallenberg, who, as citizen of a neutral country, utilized his training in architectural thinking at the service of preventing Nazi crimes, we can use our expertise as environmental designers to address humanitarian issues and address questions of social and spatial justice. Join on May 1 for a virtual public discussion and presentation of awards for the 2020 Wallenberg Studios.

The event will be streamed through this Zoom link

The Wallenberg Awards are made possible through the generosity of the Benard L. Maas Foundation and recognize the best conceived and executed studio work by one or more Taubman College seniors. The funds are disbursed in the form of a stipend for international travel to a country of the student’s choosing. Wallenberg Award winners engage in the culture and people of the country they visit, exploring how these shape the experiential qualities of architecture.

Competition Jurors

“From the Margins”
How do we explore the meaning of Resistance in the context of architectural education? Can we operate in the margins architecturally, without the risk of disclosing them as center stage? We are to understand margins, undergrounds, alleyways, shadows, backstages, pochés, spaces of disinvestment, or irregulated spaces as sites enabling freedom of action, of being, of becoming.
