2021 Wallenberg Symposium

April 30, 2021 at 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Walleberg Symposium

Each winter term, the Taubman College seniors in architecture collectively reflect upon a common studio theme, inspired by the life and actions of Raoul Wallenberg. On Friday, April 30th, a panel of guest jurors will announce this year’s Wallenberg Studios’ award winners, and engage in a conversation around their work, the studios’ endeavors, and the meaning of the Wallenberg studios within Taubman College’s undergraduate curriculum. Competition jurors include: Ethel Baraona Pol (dpr-barcelona), David Barragán (Al Borde Arquitectos), and Charles Davis (University at Buffalo).

The 2021 Wallenberg Studio Theme: Resistance
Resistance is always a contestation of power and can manifest itself in a myriad of forms both obvious and subtle, including force, subterfuge, misdirection, anticipation, defiance, and affirmation, to name but a few; and all of which have architectural antecedents, implications, and manifestations. The 2021 Wallenberg Studio invited students to search for brilliant and innovative ideas that fully embrace the Wallenberg theme of Resistance. The studios offered five distinct and independent pedagogical frameworks to interrogate the notion of resistance-assistance in the natural/built environment.
