Climate Change and Health Keynote: Renee Salas, “Climate Action: Children’s Health Drives Need for Urgent Action”

Climate change influences human health and disease in numerous ways, including impacts from increased extreme weather events, wildfire, decreased air quality, and illnesses transmitted by food, water, and disease carriers such as mosquitoes and ticks. As described in the Lancet Countdown report, some existing health threats will intensify and new health threats will emerge. Not everyone is equally at risk, and children are especially at risk. Preventive and adaptive actions are needed.

Renee N. Salas, MD, MPH, MS Clinical Instructor of Emergency Medicine, Harvard Medical School and emergency medicine physician, Massachusetts General Hospital
Dr. Salas is an emergency medicine physician who co-authored the U.S. portion of the Lancet Countdown report and The Climate Crisis — Health and Care Delivery in the New England Journal of Medicine. A panel of experts will present solutions from a variety of other universities who are reducing their carbon footprint in response to the urgent public health need.
