Design Futures Forum, "Local Action: Acts of Urbanism"

June 9, 2021 at 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

DESIGN FUTURES FORUM, “Local Action: Acts of Urbanism”

Join for the first of three public events hosted as part of the Design Futures Forum, “Local Action: Acts of Urbanism.”

Acts of Urbanism is an experimental research initiative at the intersection of design, urbanism, and the performing arts, conceived to advance an expanded set of critical tools for the interpretation of cities. Through international collaborations, both embodied and virtual, residents, designers, researchers, and artists become part of the analysis of the built environment. Through Acts of Urbanism, we will do 360 degree tours of three neighborhoods (Banglatown, Mexicantown – Southwest, Black Bottom) and learn about their history and people. The tours will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with Power House Productions, Thank You So Much For Coming, The Hinterlands, A Host of People, and Black Scroll Network History & Tours.

Join the conversation below! These tours begin at 5:30 ET on Wednesday June 9th, 2021.

Acts of Urbanism – 360 Tour with A Host of People (Southwest/Mexican Town)

Acts of Urbanism – 360 Tour of Power House Productions (Banglatown)

Acts of Urbanism – 360 Tour Black Stroll Network (Black Bottom/Paradise Valley)

The Design Futures Forum is a five-day, interdisciplinary forum bringing together student leaders with practitioners and university faculty who represent some of the most important thought leadership in community-driven and engaged design. Students from schools of urban planning and architecture from across the country are brought together for interactive workshops (including topics of power, privilege, and oppression within the context of design and the built environment), as well as engaging activities with experts in the Public Interest Design and the local community where the Forum takes place. Design Futures seeks to empower a network of interdisciplinary student leaders, practitioners, and university faculty to use design as a tool for social equity. Only students associated with institutions that are part of the Design Futures consortium are eligible to attend.
