SUMMARY:Fall 2024 UMAPS Colloquium Research Series
DESCRIPTION:Fall 2024 UMAPS Colloquium Research Series \nAyisha Ida Baffoe-Ashun \nTopic: Socio-Spatial Dynamics of Green Infrastructure in Ghanaian Cities Through Precolonial\, Colonial\, Contemporary Epochs: Based on Case Studies in Accra and Kumasi \nThis presentation explores the socio-spatial distribution of urban green infrastructure in two of Ghana’s major cities\, Accra and Kumasi\, focusing on the historical impact of colonial and post-colonial town planning on its contemporary distribution. The research investigates the influence of urban planning policies across three key periods—precolonial\, colonial\, and contemporary—and their influence on green space equity\, public health\, and environmental justice. The presentation will also address the need for new strategies to foster urban green infrastructure planning and development in Ghana’s rapidly urbanising cities for human well-being and environmental sustainability. \nPresented by the African Studies Center\, this series features the Fall 2024 U-M African Presidential Scholars (UMAPS) fellows and their scholarly work. The talks prepared and presented by each visiting scholar are designed to promote dialogue on topics and to share their research with the larger U-M community. The UMAPS Research Colloquium Series is Free and open to the public and lunch will be provided for registered participants. \nFor more details about the series and to register\, please visit https://ii.umich.edu/asc/news-events/events.detail.html/127548-21859305.html
