LunchUP: Designing a Better Future for Birds

The time is right to factor birds into the design of man-made structures and developments, particularly buildings with all-glass curtain walls that are so pleasing to humans but deadly to birds. Data on bird-building collisions right here on the U-M campus and other Washtenaw County locations will be presented. Together, we will explore what can be done through strong partnerships across the fields of urban planning, architecture, landscape design, human geography, civil engineering, biology, and public administration to prevent or mitigate threats to birds now and in the future.

These sessions are a response to requests from faculty and students to learn more about what’s going on in the field in an informal environment. We hope this can inspire emergent thoughts and connections that will inform our scholarship.
