Lunch UP

Developing New Measurements to Improve Accessibility in Transportation

Presenters:
Bri Gauger and Dr. Joe Grengs, URP and Dr. Alex Murphy, Sociology, UM

Summary:
This talk outlines a current interdisciplinary research project to improve metrics for transportation access. Working within an accessibility framework, we draw from both qualitative and quantitative analysis to suggest ways that we might illuminate and address widespread travel barriers that are not yet readily evident to planners and policy makers. We will share preliminary findings from interview data and discuss some of the unique challenges and opportunities that accompany interdisciplinary research.

These sessions are a response to requests from faculty and students to learn more about what’s going on in the field in an informal environment. We hope this can inspire emergent thoughts and connections that will inform our scholarship. If you have research you would like to present, or a provocative article you would like to discuss, please speak with Larissa Larsen, David Weinreich, or Carla Kayanan.
