LunchUP: Phil D’Anieri, “Building Environment: the Urban Planning of the Appalachian Trail”

One of the most significant thinkers on the relationship between nature and the city, Benton MacKaye, conceived of the Appalachian Trail as the backbone of a system of sprawl-containing public lands. The story of what became of that vision over the last 100 years–its successes and failures–holds important lessons for the practice of 21st-century planning, which this talk will explore.

These sessions are a response to requests from faculty and students to learn more about what’s going on in the field in an informal environment. We hope this can inspire emergent thoughts and connections that will inform our scholarship.

Lunch is included, please bring a drink.
