SUMMARY:Workshopping Michigan Climate Futures
DESCRIPTION:The mandate to make systemic change across many sectors to respond to climate change is sparking intense dialog and change within the fields of architecture\, urban technology\, urban planning\, and urban design. The urgent need for mitigation and adaptation is challenging conventional modes of disciplinary practice\, as well as highlighting the need for more effective multidisciplinary collaboration. Building on the momentum from Taubman College’s Climate Futures Symposium\, this event will bring together students\, faculty\, and invited guests from various disciplinary backgrounds to consider these questions in the context of the state of Michigan. Through a fast-paced exchange of ideas and work\, and in dialog with faculty and invited guests\, we’ll workshop modes of multidisciplinary practice and engaged learning to meet the moment for our state. \nEvent Agenda \n9:00 AM-11:00 PM (public welcome) — guest speakers present challenges associated with climate change in the built environment.\n11:30 AM – 1:00 PM (RSVP required) — students workshop across disciplines to analyze a problem presented from the morning session and propose a solution with the support of our guest speakers and Taubman faculty over lunch.\n1:00 PM – 3:00 PM (public welcome) — workshopping share-out and panel response from guest speakers. \nGuest Speakers \n\nJason Ball — Senior Planner / Planning Lead at Progressive AE\nRichard Murphy — Program Manager – Policy Research Labs at Michigan Municipal League\nShanna Draheim –Director\, Policy Research Labs at Michigan Municipal League\nAnika Goss — Chief Executive Officer at Detroit Future City\nPatrick Cooney — Vice President at Michigan Future Inc.\nSandra Lupien — Director at MassTimber@MSU\nEileen Sellaro — Senior Director of Urban Strategy and Innovation at Bedrock Detroit\nLizzie Yarina — Assistant Professor\, School of Architecture at Northeastern University\nKatie Johnson — VP\, Managing Principal\, Great Lakes at AECOM\nSurbhi Agrawal — Data Analyst & Planner at Sasaki\n\nSponsored by Climate Futures\, Architecture\, Urban & Regional Planning\, Urban Design\, and Urban Technology.
