Proof Positive: Antoine Picon

February 3, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Please join us for Episode 6 of Proof Positive with the esteemed historian and theorist of architecture and technology, Antoine Picon. Picon is best know for his book, French Engineers and Architects in the Age of Enlightenment, and his work on Claude Perrault and the Saint-Simonians. He also recently published a book on technology in contemporary architecture, Digital Culture in Architecture: An Introduction for the Design Profession.

Professor Picon has suggested two texts for discussion. The first is his own essay, “The free-standing column in 18th century religious architecture,” comes from the Lorraine Daston-edited collection, Things that Talk: Object Lessons from Art and Science. The second text is Michael Baxandall’s “Pictures and ideas: Chardin’s A Lady Taking Tea,” from Patterns of Intention: On the Historical Explanation of Pictures.
