Sensing & Simulating: Machine Learning for a Human Centered Urban Design

October 6, 2023 at 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm

An iso metric view of an artistic view of a plaza with people walking through it with text bubbles of their thoughts

As we enter the Age of the Intelligent Machine, it is impossible to ignore the marginalization and devaluation of humanity. As designers invested in an improved lived experience for all, we invite you to join us in exploring an alternate vision for artificial intelligence powered techniques; one in which our unique sensibilities and the diversity of the human condition can be celebrated. Working with a pre-release architectural simulation package, we will collaboratively investigate how to design public spaces while attending to the needs of a multitude of users and sustaining the agency of the designer. In groups of 2 or 3 you will develop an artificial intelligent agent that can exhibit the behaviors of target user groups, and use this agent to explore potential design solutions. Together we can begin to show how artificial intelligence can enhance our understanding of humanity and result in an enriched built environment.
