The Architectural Imagination Talk at MOCAD in Detroit

The Architectural Imagination co-curators, Cynthia Davidson and Monica Ponce de Leon, will give a talk on the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale U.S. Pavilion exhibition on Detroit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit (MOCAD) on February 25, 2016 at 7 p.m. Taubman College is the host of the U.S. Pavilion at the Biennale.

The co-curators will also unveil the winners of the “My Detroit” Photo Contest. The contest invited photographers of all ages to submit photographs that capture the essence of the city of Detroit. Twenty winning photos were chosen to be printed and distributed as postcards at the 2016 Biennale U.S. Pavilion. There, the photos will complement The Architectural Imagination exhibition and additionally be published in the exhibition catalog.

The exhibition, The Architectural Imagination, focuses on twelve speculative architectural projects designed for specific sites in Detroit but with far-reaching applications for cities around the world. The work selected demonstrates the creativity and resourcefulness of architecture to address the social and environmental issues of the 21st century. The exhibition will be open to the public at the Biennale’s United States Pavilion, May 28 – November 27, 2016, in Venice.

Looking for a ride to Detroit? MDetroit Connector Bus will run from Central Campus Transit Center (CCTC) (N.Geddes & Church St., Ann Arbor, Michigan – north side of street) at 5:30pm to Detroit’s Cass Corridor Commons (4605 Cass Avenue, Detroit, MI – only a 5 minute walk to MOCAD) and then will leave Detroit at 9:00pm to head back to Ann Arbor. This has been organized in partnership with another UM event in Detroit that evening.
