Tom Tjaarda: A Life in Design Exhibition

September 5, 2014 at 3:00 pm - September 28, 2014 at 7:00 pm

This exhibition is the work of this year’s Distinguished Alumnus, a retrospective on his life and career, some 60 years of automotive and industrial design, based in Torino, Italy. The exhibition will be divided into several sections that will feature aspects of his work and life.  One section will explore the legacy of his father, Dutch-born designer John Tjaarda, who was responsible for the streamlined look of the 1936 Lincoln Zephyr. Other aspects of the exhibition will incorporate photographs, sketches, and scale line drawings of Tom Tjaarda’s automotive and industrial design projects, which extend from visionary sports car designs to monorails to typewriters. The show will include a 1:4 scale model of a “super sports car” design, as well as a 1971 Pantera — his signature design — lent by a local car enthusiast.
