Workshop: Web Mapping Intro

In this workshop students will learn the basics of web mapping using 3 different platforms including ArcGIS, CartoDB and Google Maps Engine and about different file types including shape files, KML files and CSV files.  Students will learn how each of these programs work together to import and export data.

Pre-Prep for workshops:
Please sign up for a free account with each of the following online platforms.

  • Arcgis Online – Arcgis Online is the first software used in the Intro workshop. If you follow this link you will be able to set up an online account. Click on “create a public account” and follow the instructions. Once you have verified your email address you should be able to login with your preferred user name and password.
  • Cartodb – Cartodb is another software we will be using to visualize data. If you follow this link and click the “sign up” button at the top right of the screen you will be able to create a username and password for this site as well.
