Urban Planning Diversity in Community Workshop

Urban Planning Diversity in Community Workshop

This session will provide opportunities for participants to explore race/class issues as they apply to personal and professional lives. We will identify barriers that prevent us from challenging a status quo that has normalized exclusionary practices, especially in urban contexts. Through a simulation designed from real world situations that face planners and allied professionals in the field, we will identify how to value diverse lived experiences and how to include these experiences as we promote increasingly sustainable and just societies.

Facilitators:

  • Jeanne Gazel, Ph.D., Co-Founder and Director, Multi-Racial Unity Living Experience, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, Michigan State University
  • Aaron Goodman, M.U.P.’12, Community Outreach Associate, Community Development Advocates of Detroit, Detroit, Michigan

With the assistance of The Program on Intergroup Relations, University of Michigan
