Lunch UP: A Discussion on Police Use of Force

Lunch UP: A Discussion on Police Use of Force

Presenter: Dr. David Thacher

The use and abuse of deadly and non-deadly force by police officers has become one of the central social issues of our time. Dr. Thacher will provide a broad overview of this problem - the relationship between coercive force and the police role, the prevalence and distribution of the use of force among American police, and strategies for controlling the use of force by police officers.

These sessions are a response to requests from faculty and students to learn more about what’s going on in the field in an informal environment. We hope this can inspire emergent thoughts and connections that will inform our scholarship. If you have research you would like to present, or a provocative article you would like to discuss, please speak with Larissa Larsen, David Weinreich, or Carla Kayanan.
