Mick McConnellVisiting Assistant Professor of Architecture
A multi-disciplinary designer focused on creative solutions to complex problems, Mick McConnell has been responsible for global creative output across all customer and communication channels for large, global brands. As one of the leaders of several in-house creative agencies and digital content marketing hubs, comprising of all content, creative, design UX, UI, Insights and marketing communication teams serving members globally, McConnell's other areas of specialty include strategy, digital, graphic, retail design, creative direction, product development, store development and project development. His management experience spans over 25 years and has consistently increased in scope year over year.
As Head of Design Innovation at WeWork, McConnell assisted with the development of new commerce-driven product offerings including Headquarters by WeWork (HQxWe), Global Access, and the core product. For new offerings, all aspects of design, brand, marketing, operations and sales were developed to roll-out stage. Prior to this role, McConnell managed a team of designers, project managers, graphic designers, procurement specialists and accountants to adapt and implement many of the design processes successfully created and deployed at both Chipotle and Starbucks. McConnell also simultaneously served as the Head of Standards. His team defined the design and architecture base for all WeWork projects and generated standards which lead to an overall savings of $105M over the span of 80 WeWork locations. As Head of Special Projects, the team developed all new product lines and improved on existing projects. McConnell has a depth and breadth of experience across multiple dimensions of modern multichannel commerce (direct-to-consumer, e-commerce, social commerce, and other online marketplaces, multichannel retailing, experiential marketing, online auctions, etc.).
The award-winning author of LAX, The Los Angeles Experiment, McConnell has worked with leading corporations, architects, agencies, and design firms both in-house and as a consultant to insure operations, environments and function all work synonymously and creatively. Creating systems for problem solving and deployment of solutions is the common thread across all disciplines and something McConnell excels at and demonstrates on a global scale.
