Assistant Professors Anca Trandafirescu and Glenn Wilcox’s installation work LUMANOTUS opens November 13th – 17th

The installation will open for public display November 13 – 17, 7pm – 10pm in Winston Square Park, Winston Salem, NC. The installation, created in collaboration with lighting design students from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, under the direction of Norman Coates, Director of the Lighting Program, comprises the annual Winston Salem Lighting Project.

For six consecutive evenings a public park will be occupied by 3 large scale inflatable / inhabitable monuments that will be illuminated by both projected and animated lighting media. Throughout each evening 4 separate computer controlled lighting sequences will animate the pieces and the park transforming the scene into a public spectacle.

Models and drawings of the work are on display at the Swift Wade Gallery in Winston Salem through November.

As part of the event, Trandafirescu and Wilcox will give a lecture on their work at the Center for Design Innovation in Winston Salem on November 14, 5:00pm – 7:00pm. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The inflatables were constructed at Taubman College utilizing the departments computer controlled ZUND knife cutter. Trandafirescu and Wilcox were also assisted in the assembly by a team of graduate students from the program.

The project was made possible with generous public support, funding from UNCSA, and Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
