Halquist’s Collaboration with Artists and Musicians Featured as a 55th Ann Arbor Film Festival Event

Lecturer Peter Halquist’s expanded cinema performance, “Drone,” in collaboration with Associate Professor Osman Khan (Stamps School of Art + Design), composer and multi-instrumentalist James Cornish, and an ensemble of 11 musicians, will be performed on March 24, 2017 at 10:00pm at Ann Arbor Distilling Company as part of the programming for the 55th Ann Arbor Film Festival. “Drone” was initially performed as [drohn] in May, 2016 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) and has been updated for the Ann Arbor performance. Halquist and Khan collaborated on the scenography design for this multi-channel video and multi-performer/instrumentalist performance, choreographed by Khan.

The performance activates the initial notational and representational form into a live experiential event, where drone imagery is montaged and contrasted with an ensemble playing a drone composition, to generate a tensioned visual unfolding that activates the dramatic attack of the audio score.
