Bieri Delivers Keynote for A2 DataDive

David Bieri, Assistant Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, delivered a keynote address at this year’s “A2 DataDive,” event organized by the University of Michigan’s School of Information. The title of the keynote, “On the Political Economy of Big Data,” focused on; a genealogy of the production of large information sets, how the dialectical interplay between different political regimes and economic forces gives rise to and legitimizes different forms of knowledge, and how the arrival of the age of Big Data has profound consequences for information asymmetries and market failures.

This year’s A2 DataDive event took place February 9-10, 2013 and is a weekend-long, hackathon-style event aimed to bring together data-minded individuals with non-profits from the Ann Arbor area. The event includes workshops, talks, and data exploration, all in the name of community service. For more information on A2 DataDive, visit: a2datadive.org
