Banner Building Reuse, Detroit, MI, Ongoing Project
Design Assistant: Matthew Crilley
Client/Collaborator: 555 Arts
Reorienting design as cycles of material use promotes care of existing environments, with an eye towards future change. Banner Building Reuse is a series of micro-projects revolving around the ongoing transformation of a historic cigar factory building in Poletown, Detroit by a non-profit arts group into a community arts center. Rather than a single architectural solution, the design is introduced as phases of material addition (and removal) over time, aligning with the project’s social, material, and financial realities.
